After the acknowledged progressive masterpiece "Orfeo 9", dated 1972, Tito Schipa released "Io ed io solo" in 1974 he released his first songwriting album, "Io ed io solo" (I and only I), an underrated workthat i nfact is a collection of single independently written songs dated from 1971 to 1973. Side A shows five cuts, in the vein of a sensible and moving songwriter with essential and minimalist music, with particular and sometimes intentionally ungraceful vocals. On the other hand, the content side B is a real surprise, it consists in a
single long suite dedicated to Alberto D. and Myriam G., with a series of great guest stars musicians: Fabio Liberatori (later with Stadio, collaborator of Lucio Dalla and De Gregori and soundtrack composer), Nicola Di Staso (Libra), Walter Martino (Goblin), Shel Shapiro, Claudio Barbera, Ruggero Stefani. Music is more complex and virtuosistic, very well arranged, and vocals are less monotonous and more interpretative. In the end, this really sounds like having two albums in one!
