Unlängst hat der Grandsigneur der rockenden und zeitgleich orchestralen Tastenmusik das Zeitliche gesegnet. Wir haben in vielen Nachrufen von Jon Lord Abschied genommen, dennoch wird seine Musik natürlich immer weiterleben. Dies ist kein Ausverkauf seines Ablebens, sondern sein großer Traum. Jon Lord hatte trotz fortgeschrittener Krebskrankheit ein letztes großes Ziel – und dieses hatte er gerade noch erreicht. Concerto For Group And Orchestra ist die erste Studio-Aufnahme des legendären gleichnamigen Konzertes, das Deep Purple 1969 einst mit dem Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) in der Royal Albert Hall aufnahm.

Das Werk erscheint in zwei Varianten:
als CD (Standard) und als limitierte 2-Disc-Variante (CD und DVD Audio in 5.1-Sound) im Digipak.

Bis kurz vor seinem Tod scharte Lord nicht nur wieder das RPO um sich, sondern auch zahlreiche namhafte Gastmusiker. Unter ihnen Iron Maidens Bruce Dickinson, Deep Purples Steve Morse, „Tausendsassa“ Joe Bonamassa und viele mehr. In den berühmten Abbey Road Studios wurde dieses wertvolle und musikhistorisch hochwertige Stück erstmalig in einem Studio eingespielt. Unter der Leitung von Paul Mann, der auch bei der 1999er Wiederbelebung des bahnbrechenden Meilensteines von 1969 Regie führte, wurde das Concerto abermalig mit viel Liebe und Herzblut aufgelegt. Hiermit hat Jon Lord sein letztes Werk beendet und hinterlässt der Nachwelt sein beeindruckendes musikalisches Vermächtnis.
