Popis - EXCAVATED SHELLAC: STRING [VINYL]:
Last copies have a small split seam on top. When these are gone, they're gone. 14 outstanding compositions from the four corners of the world played on stringed instruments and recorded and released 78rpm records circa 1920-1950. Featuring fiddles, shamisen, charango, Paraguyan harp, Indian vina, Lebanese oud, Persian violin, Vietnamese moon guitar, and more. All previously unreleased, carefully transferred and mastered and presented with detailed liner notes. Packaging deion: Pressed on high quality vinyl, full color cover featuring 78rpm record sleeve graphics, with an insert of extensive liner notes and photos. Compiler bio: Jonathan Ward is a young 78rpm collector and music researcher who has amassed an absolutely incredible collection of rare 78rpm records from around the world. Generally sharing these through his well-known blog, Excavated Shellac, Ward's one of a kind collection is showcased for the first time on Dust-to-Digital's vinyl imprint, Parlortone. None of these tracks have appeared prior to this release either on Excavated Shellac or on any CD or LP compilation of which we are aware. The Excavated Shellac archives are hosted on WFMU's Free Music Archive, and are essentially an (inter) national treasure. Future Dust-to-Digital / Parlortone releases that are in the works include a major survey of Jonathan's extensive collection of African 78s (traditional, ethnographic, guitar, pop, South African jive, and more), alongside more LPs in the Excavated Shellac series featuring vocals, reeds and percussion. This LP marks the first collaboration between Jonathan Ward and Dust-to-Digital / Parlortone. In Fall 2010, the second installment of the Excavated Shellac series will be released: Opika Pende: Africa at 78rpm. The set will feature 4 CDs and a book compiled by Jonathan Ward. This is the third release on Dust to Digital's vinyl imprint, Parlortone."Jon Ward's Excavated Shellac focuses on ethnic music on 78's. He's one of the smartest obsessive record collectors I know, and the stuff he posts I would gladly pay to download...it is always stuff you would never hear anywhere else, nothing here on CD. This is the rarest of the rare and the best of the best. Stellar!" - Steve Roden, Wire.
