Popis - LIVE:
Heather Bishop a natural and abundantly gifted entertainer' Kitchener-Waterloo Record As we move into the new century, Heather moves into her fourth decade of performing and touring, first with an all women's dance band in the early 70's and then as a solo artist. She has crisscrossed the continent doing concerts for all kinds of family, child, and adult audiences, in places as diverse as Boston, Vancouver, Kansas City, and the fly-in village of old Crow in the Yukon. She also has toured several times in Australia and in Scotland and Wales. Heather has always lived her belief that when she gives voice to the truth in her own life, it strikes a chord in other people's lives as well. And what a voice! Heather's resonant, expressive vocals can take you anywhere you want to go. In concert, Heather makes you laugh, touches your heart and lifts up your spirit. She offers up a feast of her own originals, choice classics and selections from other contemporary singer-songwriters. Heather has recently mounted a new show entitled “A Tribute to Peggy Lee”, wherein she successfully captures the essence of Peggy Lee through her music, while skillfully weaving vignettes of Peggy’s life throughout. She brings us all our favorite songs from almost four decades of music. Her thirteenth CD is a collection of music from that show and goes by the same title. As the Kingston Whig-Standard put it, 'Heather Bishop absorbs all life has to offer, imprints it with her compassion, her tremendous optimism - and sometimes quirky humor - and then reflects it all back through powerful lyrics and music that could banish complacency from the hardest heart.' Heather's twelfth recording, for which she received a Prairie Music Award nomination, is Heather Bishop Live, a collection that's life affirming, heartfelt, humorous and romantic. For her recording, A Taste of the Blues, Heather was nominated for a JUNO for Most Promising Female Vocalist. Chickee's on the Run!, her fourth release for children, received a JUNO nomination for Best Children's Recording, a U.S. Parents' Choice Gold Award (also awarded to A Duck in New York City), and a NAPPA Gold award (the U.S. National Association of Parenting Publications). Most recently Heather was awarded the Industry Builder Award at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Heather has also been honoured with the Order of Canada, The Order of Manitoba, and the YW/YMCA Women of Distinction Award. Heather Bishop gives back to her community with volunteer service at both the Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association which she helped form and has served on the board for most of it’s 20 years including 6 years as President commencing in 2000 as well as sitting on the Board of Manitoba Film & Sound. Heather Bishop – a Biography What the critics have to say………… 'In song and in conversation, Bishop's message is simple and unequivocal and urgent. 'We have to embrace a spirit of cooperation and self-respect. We have to exercise our power to choose to live in a world of harmony'. Bishop herself represents the hope that such a world is attainable by the very resonance other own voice.' Robert Reid, Kitchener-Waterloo Record 'Heather Bishop absorbs all life has to offer, imprints it with her compassion, her tremendous optimism - and sometimes quirky humor - and then reflects it all back through powerful lyric and music that could banish complacency from the hardest heart.' Anne Kershaw, Whig-Standard, Kingston '... she transcends all the bins and artificial categories ... come to her concert and she'll send you home with a glimpse of the prairie moon.' Muriel Hogan, Downtown, Milwaukee 'a strong raconteur, using both humour and pathos to full effect' Steven Ostick, Winnipeg Free Press 'Bishop is confident, spontaneous and witty ... she could sing a Capella all night and have the audience eating out of the palm of her hand.' Brenda L. Whitehall, Hamilton Spectator 'blessed with a sensational voice' Helen Metella, Edmonton Journal 'a powerful Canadian singer-songwriter' Scott Alarik, Boston Globe 'rich, lyrical politics' C. K. Riese, The Pillar, Salt Lake City 'Songs are provocative poetic statements that cut deeply while retaining genuine tenderness.' Kristin Faurest, Courier-Journal, Louisville 'a resonant, endlessly expressive voice that makes you want to both sing along and weep at the sheer beauty' Laura Post, New Directions For Women 'Don't let her honey-velvet tones fool you - she can belt 'em out as easily as she can croon.' Bay Windows, Boston 'distinctive contralto' Shiela Morrison, Xtra West! Vancouver '...Versatility, sensuality, and wit. She's a voice that will take you anywhere you want to go.' Nicki De, Victory Review 'Individually and collectively these are love songs for a planet and a people' Heartsong Review Biography Heather has always lived her belief that when she speaks and sings about the truth in her own life, it strikes a chord in other people's lives as well. She started performing three decades ago in the all-woman dance band, Walpurgis Night, and has been going strong ever since. In 1979 Heather recorded her first album and began touring extensively, playing concert halls, folk clubs and campuses, festivals and conferences, and school auditoriums across Canada and the United States. She toured solo or with one or more side players, doing concerts for adult, family and young audiences in major cities, small towns and remote communities. The fall of 2003 marked the release of Heather's thirteenth recording, Heather Bishop in A Tribute to Peggy Lee. For her recording, A Taste of the Blues, Heather was nominated for a Juno for Most Promising Female Vocalist. Chickee's On The Run!, her most recent of four children's releases, received a Juno nomination for Best Children's Recording, a U.S. Parents' Choice Gold Award (also awarded to A Duck in New York City), and a NAPPA Gold award (the U.S. National Association of Parenting Publications). Heather Bishop Live received a Prairie Music Award nomination for Best Roots Recording. In the 1990's, in addition to touring in Canada and the United States, Heather travelled overseas to tour in Scotland and Wales and made several trips to Australia. She also had her children's repertoire arranged for symphony orchestra and performed with most of Canada’s major Symphony Orchestras as well as a couple of dates in the USA. In recent years, Heather has done concerts for such organizations as the Woodford Folk Festival in Woodford Australia, the Scottish International Children’s Festival in Edinborough Scotland, the National Women's Music Festival in Bloomington Indiana, Musaic Chorus in Victoria BC, MJG Productions in Toronto, New Folk Collective in Minneapolis, Frostbite Music Festival in the Yukon Territory and Edmonton Vocal Minority in Alberta. For her work in the arts as well as in the community, Heather was awarded both the YM/YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in 1997 and the Order of Manitoba in 2001, the highest award that province can bestow on one its citizens. Years ago Heather built a solar house on her property in rural Manitoba, for which she did the carpentry, electrical and plumbing. In her time off the road, she's most often found there - hammering, sawing, wiring, planting, putting up one thing or pulling down another. Or, if the squirrels have chased her away, she could be off in the woods with her dog, Cutter.
