The first LP for both famed musicians, Alceu Valena and Geraldo Azevedo (1972), has wild, dissonant arrangements by legendary composer and arranger Rogerio Duprat, who had also worked with Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Os Mutantes and more of Brazil's futuristic artists. Both Valena and Azevedo are Brasilian composers who created a distinctive style that mixes native north-eastern rhythms, such as frevo, baiao, maracatu, coco, xaxado, embolada, toada and xote, with elements of rock and psychedelia. The poetic beauty and the hypnotic rhythms in their songs have made both composers legendary in their native land. With a similar cast of musicians to the Flaviola and the Flock Of The Sun album (as well as a similar vibe), this certainly qualifies as more truly great psychedelic folk music from the Pernambuco region of Brasil.
