'THE COLOMBIAN MELTING POT: 1960-1985'. - Colombian music in
general, especially the music from the Caribbean coast, is
heavily infuenced by the drums, percussion and chanting of
African rhythms. Thus Afrobeat, Terapia and Lumbal clashed
effortlessly with the tropical sounds of Puya, Porro, Gaita,
Cumbiamba, Mapel and Chand to create a rich amalgam of
irresistible dance music while traditional styles were refined
by an elite cadre of accordion players that included Alejandro
Duran, Alfredo Gutierrez, Calixto Ochoa, Anibal Velasquez and
Andres Landero. The compilation CD features 32 tracks from many of the essential artists, including Wganda Kenya, Julian Y Su
Combo, Myrian Makenwa, Wasamaye Rock Group, Los Salvajes,
Conjunto Son San, Sonora Tropiacal, Cumbia Soledena, Andres
Landero, a.m.o. On vinyl 'Diablos Del Ritmo' is divided into
two separate 2LP volumes, which together offer all of the songs
included in the double CD.
