Because - even though it was the proving ground for singers the stature of Salif Keita and Mory Kanté - the story of the Rail Band has never been the story of just one member. Nor is it a story of a band with just one style: the great rolling, savannah rhytms are still here, as well as the beautifully hypnotic progressions that give the music of this region so much power even today.
