The idea of ‘Heaven’ for a title came when so many of the songs I was singing where about heaven. Going up there, streets of gold, gates of pearl, and spending time with Jesus. Of course not all the songs are about heaven. The first song “When I Get To Where I’m Going”, made famous be Dolly Parton and Brad Paisley. It spoke of walking with my Granddaddy, and since I was raised by my grandparents it really hit home. ‘My God Is Real’ is a song I’ve sang since I was five years old. The music has so many instruments and the upbeat sound makes it a joy to listen to. ‘That’s My Story’ is a song for a quartet to sing. It speaks of being high on a mountain, than deep in the ghetto. The last verse is about when I had a motorcycle accident in Tyler, Texas. I set a record for staying alive in the emergency room. So much pain! Two men kept visiting me and brought me a guitar. I began singing again and I sang every afternoon at five. Some say I had a crowd outside my hospital room. I quit singing at age twelve when my Grandparents were killed in a head on automobile crash. ‘Looking In The Eyes of Love’ I recorded for my wife Happy. I think it makes her happy when she hears this song. I’ll not mention all of the songs, but each one has a history with it. ‘One More Day’ I recorded for my niece Kay after she lost her husband. Tears still come to our eyes when we listen to this song. ‘Just A Child’ is a story of me and my two sisters right after the accident that killed my Grandparents. I was twelve and my sisters where eight and ten years old. ‘Heaven On Red River , my wife and I were looking for a place to live and I liked the idea of having a place on Red River, that’s the river between Texas and Oklahoma. That’s when we met Vernon. He was a big dreamer and he was putting his dreams into action building this giant RV Park. He talked of people fishing, swimming, hiking, cooking out and just enjoying the outdoors with ‘live music’ on a specially built stage right in the center on it all. What a place, It’s almost finished and it’s a site to see. It’s about a mile off highway 75, cross a railroad tract, down a curvy road into a valley of grass and trees overlooking Red River. To camp there for a day or a week is exciting just to think about it. Oh, I wrote a song about it called ‘Heaven On Red River’. ‘Gods Hall of Fame’ was written by Jim Koiner. He has a bait shop on the Oklahoma side of Lake Texoma. Stop in if your fishing in that area and say Hi, he usually has his base guitar set up and musicians usually stop in from time to time for some good old rock and roll music. ‘Over There’ was made famous by Gene Watson. Here’s a real song that’s truly about Heaven. Our studio went all out on this song. Thanks Mike, he’s the owner and director of McClain’s Recording Studio here in Garland, Texas. ‘I Hope You Dance’ is a Gladys Knight song. We took the TV version, which by the way is five and a half minutes long. Probably won’t get much radio airplays because of the length of the song. At the end we put the full ‘Prayer of Serenity’. The theme for recovering acholallics. Enjoy this album and may God Bless you richly with thoughts and ideas that stir your sole each time you listen to our CD called ‘HEAVEN’. Truly, this is a collector’s piece of Kiker’s underrated craft, comfortable-on-the-ears and gentle-on-the spirit, this is well worth a relaxing listen especially if you enjoy the balladeer style.
