In the midst of all their other contributions to society (like running a successful independent record label, writing hit songs for a hit movie, performing with other BIGGER bands and musicians, and selling booze to the demanding public), four So-Cal guys decided it was time to release another album. By bringing in a few heavy-hitters to the cause, namely Jerry Finn (AFI, Blink-182, Alkaline Trio and 100 others) who mixed the album, makes Hollywood Potato Chip an exceptional album among a history of exceptional albums. Keeping in the tradition of fast-tempo melodies and numerous inside jokes, The Vandals remain one of the last bastions of punk rock that can be fun without compromising musicality and performance ability. As an ode to the shady industry in which many people strive to be a part of, The Vandals have created an album that pays tribute to the darker side of Hollywood, where na?ve and starry-eyed transplants are put through the twisted ringer of head shots and casting calls, and once the energetic drive is over, all that is left behind are remnants of a once-powerful Producer and a filthy couch on the sidewalk. As the latest album released on their own label (previous releases on Kung Fu are 'Oi To The World,' 1996 and 'Internet Dating Superstuds,' 2002), The Vandals decided to make an album for themselves. Rather than stoop to the hit-machine formula of getting a few sleeve tattoos and replacing the lead singer with a young emo-screamo type, these guys have figured out long ago that you don't need MTV and KROQ to sell records. All you really need is good songwriting, a decent touring schedule and some basic accounting skills...everything else will take care of itself. (Of course, it doesn't hurt to know a few people in the biz either.) Another mystique to The Vandals is their virtual empire touching nearly all aspects of the entertainment industry and human life itself. Since you last heard from them... * Dave still runs his own alcohol distribution company and employs people with Mohawks. * Warren further involved himself in the Tenacious D enigma by co-writing two songs featured on the hit movie 'School Of Rock' starring Jack Black. * Joe directed the indie feature film 'Cake Boy' and still trains as one of Americas very few active amateur bullfighters. He is also a partner in the new Warped Tour Japan. * Josh remains the industry's most-sought-after drummer while keeping his membership card for A Perfect Circle, DEVO and of course The Vandals. He has more platinum albums than God. * Joe and Warren are co-owners of Kung Fu Records, which has become one of the world's most successful AND truly independent punk record labels in the scene today.
