From exciting, fast-paced reels to beautiful, deeply emotional airs, Journey spans the breadth of the globe in a riveting collection of tunes, including music from Denmark, Scotland, Norway, the Shetland Isles, and original compositions by renowned artists such as Hanneke Cassel and Harald Haugaard. Featured on this album are several pieces written by members of Celtic Cross which were inspired by the beauty and wonder of music in fiddle traditions around the world. A family of musicians, Celtic Cross is made up of Meghan (lead violin, Hardanger fiddle), Caitlin (viola, violin), Christopher (cello, guitar, ukelele), and Susan Perdue (piano). They have been fiddling together since 2005. 'Journey' is their second album; the first album, 'Commence,' was released in 2012. They have enjoyed being on stage with Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas, Hanneke Cassel, Harald Haugaard and Helene Blum, Antti Järvelä, Kevin Henderson, Pete Cooper, Mike Block, Andre Brunet, Pascal Gemme, Kirstine Sand, and Jeremy Kittel, among others. They have studied Scottish and Cape Breton music with likes of Patsy Reid, Gabe McVarish, Adam Sutherland, Kimberley Fraser, the McKassons, Neil Pearlman, and Elke Baker and have also worked with Jazz greats Billy Contreras, Victor Lin, and Zach Brock. Tammy Rogers King of The Steeldrivers, fiddle legend Buddy Spicher and rock violinist Tracy Silverman have also been powerful influences. Celtic Cross has played on stages from California to Maryland and Scotland to Germany. Their music has made an impact on audiences from intimate gatherings to large festivals and concerts. They may also be heard on the soundtracks for John Piper’s 'After Darkness, Light' and 'The Inn Keeper'. Meghan Perdue is a freshman in Commercial Violin Performance at Belmont University. Meghan’s amazing skill in improvisation and tune-writing has garnered respect from professionals and adoration from her students and fans. She has performed in the US, Scotland, and Germany, recorded at RCA Studios, been featured on several soundtracks, singles, and albums, and writes and arranges many of the tunes played by Celtic Cross. She has also appeared at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and in 'Christmas at Belmont' on PBS. Caitlin Perdue is a master’s degree candidate in Viola Performance and String Pedagogy at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. She loves to teach both violin and viola and enjoys playing classical repertoire as well as fiddling. In addition to an active private teaching studio and performing with Celtic Cross, she coaches “Lord of the Fiddle,” conducts a church orchestra, and teaches violin classes in a local school. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall and on documentary soundtracks. She is also a tune writer for the band. Chris Perdue is a master’s degree candidate in Commercial Cello Performance at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. His passion is exploring new ways to make both old and new music sound fresh and unique. He is known for his high-energy groove and for creative chords and rhythms. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Christopher’s skills on cello, mandolin, bass, and guitar have taken him around the world to perform on stages from California to DC, Scotland, Germany and Turkey. He has recorded for soundtracks, singles, and albums for a variety of clients. He has made appearances at Carnegie Hall, The Grand Ole Opry and in the PBS specials, “Band of Courage” and 'Christmas at Belmont.' Susan Perdue plays keys in the band. A musician since childhood, she has written several of the original tunes the band plays and is an instrumental part of the arranging process.
