Popis - DREAMING OF THE SEA:
In the late fall of 2011, Kyleen and her husband separated and she left their northern California farm to travel the western United States. She began to write and perform professionally again in 2012, so this collection of songs represents a transformational year of her life. Originals range from songs about contemporary family dynamics to the retelling of her great-great grandmother's seafaring adventures. This album gives Kyleen the chance to blend her love for varied styles of music with her prime vocal abilities. Guest musicians include instrumentalist/vocalist Andrew Emlen of Willapa Hills, violinist Bruce Sherman, and organist Roger Sherman. Track Notes for Dreaming of the Sea 1 Leaving Colorado (Kyleen Austin) Tells the story of Kyleen's teenage adventure moving back to her native state of California. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin 2 A Place Called Home (Michael James Henderson, Kim Ritchie) Even though she has been singing this song for a decade, this song reflects Kyleen's mood and thoughts during her 2012 year of traveling the US. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin 3 Harry's Tale (Kyleen Austin) This song tells the story of Kyleen's ancestor, Harriet Parker Sherman, as she sailed the high seas with her husband, Captain Sherman, in the late 19th century. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin, Cello-Andrew Emlen, Violin-Bruce Sherman 4 Crossroad Blues (Robert Johnson) Kyleen's interpretation is spare and simple in this classic and poignant song. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin 5 Strange Affair (Richard Thompson) This song was first released in 1978 on Thompson's 'First Light' album. To Kyleen, it is a self-reflective poem where the words are the thing, accompanied by a soft guitar. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin 6 Moclips (Kyleen Austin) When Kyleen left the farm, one of the first places she stayed was the little village of Moclips on the Washington coast. She was there during December but was blessed with sunny warm weather, which lead to lots of songwriting, including this Johnson-influenced piece. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin 7 Green Eyes (Kate Wolf) This was released by Kate Wolf in 1983 on her 'Give Yourself to Love' album. No one can perform her songs without experiencing pure joy. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin, Vocals/Guitar-Andrew Emlen 8 Back Again (Kyleen Austin) Part of living is learning how to grieve through loss. Writing this was a turning point for Kyleen in getting her equilibrium back. Vocals-Kyleen Austin, Guitar/Cello-Andrew Emlen 9 Can't Help Falling in Love (Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, George David Weiss) The melody is based on 'Plaisir d'Amour' (1784), a popular romance by Jean Paul Egide Martini (1741-1816). Elvis Presley recorded it first in 1961. It is one of Kyleen's all time favorite ballads. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin 10 Now You're 21 (Kyleen Austin) This was a birthday present to Kyleen's son. Vocals/Guitar-Kyleen Austin, Piano-Roger Sherman
